Open Your Heart To Autism

Did you know that the 27th of this month is Giving Tuesday, the largest global giving day all year? We're excited that - for the first time - The Answer Inc will be a part of this worldwide event, providing you with a chance to give back to our community. Our organization has set a goal to raise $10,000 in just 24 hours. It'll take everyone to get it done, but the impact your donations will have is going to be incredible.

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, this year’s #GivingTuesday will take place on November 27th and will kick off the giving season by inspiring people to collaborate and give back.

Our Men’s Support Group

Our “Just For Men” support group caters to the needs of the fathers dealing with individuals with autism or other mental impairments. Researchers found that fathers of adolescents and young adults with autism experience high levels of depression and are pessimistic about what the future holds for their child. Men are more socialized to just soldier on & the resultant emotional isolation can easily foster depression.  This group is male facilitated to allow a safe place to open up and connect with other men in the same situation. Which reinforces the sanctity of fatherhood as role models for other fathers in our community. Free respite care for children is provided at meetings the second Saturday of every month.

Our Spectrum University Program

More than a third of young adults on the autism spectrum are neither working nor in college. Young adults on the autism spectrum experience unique challenges in finding work or enrolling in appropriate educational opportunities after leaving high school. The Answer Inc. facilitates Autism friendly employers and connects them with eligible applicants to become part of community life.

To help address this need Spectrum University ( our tutoring program for special needs young adults) services participants --- ages 18 to 40 --- impacted by autism/developmental disorders.

Our  MUSIC n ME  Program

Sedentary lifestyles and unhealthy eating habits can influence behavior, academic performance and social interactions. Our MUSIC n ME Nutrition, Dance and Exercise Class is a program combining fitness, social interaction, expression and the opportunity to explore nutritious foods. Improved mobility and making better food choices are important and beneficial for long term health and well-being. The group experience teaches patience, listening to instruction and the valuable skill of working your way around a kitchen.

Our Recreational Events

Our group travels beyond the local community to experience a variety of fun recreational activities. Outings include: theater, sporting events, peer dances, and horseback riding camp!

Horseback Riding Camp

A significant amount of the funds from the walkathon - our largest fundraiser of the year -goes toward providing scholarships for equine assisted therapy camp. Riders develop balance and rhythm from the movement, in which the child indirectly learns how to focus better, tactile senses are stimulated, motor skills are also developed in grooming and there is an increase in self-confidence, which increases the desire and willingness to learn skills at home and/or at school. Learning is no longer scary, but fun, interesting and rewarding.

Other recreational events include:

Our February Valentine Dance

Our June Dance Fever Event

Our July Mothers of The Midwest Brunch

Our September Gala

Our December Steppers Delight

Funds from the walkathon allows us to continue providing Family outings and Peer Dances throughout the year that foster educational opportunities to teach and practice acceptable public behaviors and socialization skills.
