Ask Jason's Mom - Episode 3

The Answer Inc is on a mission to de-stigmatize societies’ opinion of people with Autism and Other Developmental Disorders. As a part of that mission, our CEO Debra Vines has launched a new series called “Ask Jason’s Mom” - within which she is answering questions and dispelling myths - specifically aimed at parents and family members of Children and Young adults living with Autism and Other Developmental Disorders.

In this episode, Debra addresses a parent’s request for tips on how to transition her child back to school. Below is the first of two episodes dedicated to a series of tips collected from Debra’s personal experiences and other sources.

TIP #1 — Talk to your child about what to expect in the upcoming school year.

TIP #2 — Cross days off on your calendar.

TIP #3 — Create a new morning routine and practice it before the start of the school year.

TIP #4 — Take a tour of the school.

TIP #5 — Walk through emergency procedures on your visit.

TIP #6 — Create a daily school schedule for your child.

TIP #7 — Have your child meet the teacher before beginning of school year.

TIP #8 — Write a letter outlining your child’s strengths, weaknesses, possible sensory issues, dietary restrictions, and favorite reinforcers.
