Women's History Month: Honoring Debra Vines

In the United States, March is National Women’s History Month. It honors women’s contributions in all areas of life.

The Celebration began in 1978, when a school district in Sonoma California, hosted a week long recognition of women’s accomplishments throughout history. The idea spread, and in 1980, President Jimmy Carter proclaimed the week of March 8TH, National Women’s History Week. 6 years later, an organization called The National Women’s History Project, convinced congress to dedicate the entire month of March to Women’s History.

Each year, a special focus for the month, is declared by The National Women’s History Project. Pioneers such as educator - Mary McLeod Bethune, Clara Barton - who founded The Red Cross, Amelia Earhart - in aviation, and former 1ST Lady - Michelle Obama, have been honored.

So throughout the month of march, we will also be honoring some of the amazing women within The Answer Inc Family… starting with our fearless leader, Debra Vines.

As the self-proclaimed “Autism Advocate On The Move” and the mother of a 30 year old son living with Autism - Debra lives out daily, her commitment to being son’s number one advocate. Matter of fact, it was her commitment to advocating for Jason, that led to the founding of The Answer Inc, 12 years ago… and ultimately, her life long dedication to advocating for other families impacted by Autism and Other Developmental Differences.

Whether shooting magazine covers, hosting radio shows, being featured in local television news segments, or hosting her own community education series - in ask Jason’s Mom. Debra is always, without fail, representing the Autism & Special Needs Community - wherever and whenever she can.

That is why Women’s History Month is such an important opportunity for us to pause and honor her contributions, as well as the contributions of countless women nationwide.

As we recognize her, let’s also honor the everyday women who make our families, communities, economy, military, and nation strong.

The Answer Inc is deeply proud to honor them all, not only during Women’s History Month, but indeed, every day of the year.
